You Can('t) Go Home Again

Some of the best news I heard this week was the return of the "Big Ticket" Kevin Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves. I first saw him play at St. Cloud State during training camp of his rookie year. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago! While Garnett is no longer the dominant player he was a decade ago, his work ethic and enthusiasm will benefit a young Wolves team.

This spring will also bring the return of fan favorite Torii Hunter to the Minnesota Twins. Torii's no longer the spectacular center fielder that he once was, but he was also brought in to provide some stability and leadership for a young Minnesota Twins team, one that has their first new manager (former player Paul Molitor) in over a decade.

Bringing in former fan favorites to a team doesn't always work - last year's Twins team was a prime example. The team brought back former stars Jason Bartlett, Jason Kubel and Matt Guerrier. None of these players was on the roster by the end of August. Sometimes, the gamble does pay off, as it did for the Twins with hometown heroes Jack Morris, Dave Winfield and Molitor. While neither the Wolves or Twins are expected to make the playoffs this year, both signings should keep the fans interested in the game and provide some optimism for the future.

Well, that's all for now. Until next time, have a great weekend, everyone!
